Dear Friends,

Over the years, the Helping Every Little Person (H.E.L.P.) project has taught me many important lessons of life, such as the value of social responsibility and the importance of making changes in my community.   Helping others less fortunate is not just a necessity, but should be an obligation for everyone.

I chose to create a concept that would directly touch the lives of thousands of disadvantaged youth instead of volunteering at a children's hospital or library.

At first, I was overwhelmed, as I am sure you might be, at the thought of adopting a children's preschool, foster home, or shelter home.   Imagine organizing high school or college students to join and volunteer their time, and having to come up with a public relations campaign, a logo, and a fundraising plan-all at the ripe old age of 16!   Talk about learning lessons!

With the love and support of Beth Masino and Heidi Birnbaum through Family Central, they helped turn my dream into a reality.   H.E.L.P. drew the attention of the Miami Heat and the Florida Marlin's organizations! The basic concept is simple:   CHILDREN helping CHILDREN . When your group adopts a subsidized preschool, a foster home, or a shelter home for the school year, and visits these children on a regular basis, many lives are affected.   A great sense of satisfaction is derived in knowing you played an important role in a child's future.

When I created H.E.L.P., I had no idea of the important role it would play in my life and my fellow students.   I knew I would have huge obstacles to overcome because of my age and inexperience.   H.E.L.P. grew from 3 high school volunteers in its first year, to over thousands of volunteers to-date. H.E.L.P. hopes to continue its stride to making less fortunate children feel loved. H.E.L.P. believes that with hard work and dedication we can make a difference in the lives of others. It is H.E.L.P.'s goal for their members to feel a sense of responsibility, honor, loyalty, and affection toward the less fortunate people of this world. Achieving this goal, students will feel good about themselves and be prepared for a positive role in today's society.

Good Luck!

Sincerely,

Jennifer Lostumbo
